Community Training Centre was established in 1983 to cater for the training needs of young people in the Mayfield area of Cork. In 1997 the Centre moved from its original base in Mayfield Shopping Centre to larger premises in the local business park where it now occupies a 12,000 sq. foot building.
Mayfield CTC caters for individuals between the ages of 16 and 21. Entry to courses is by interview; no qualifications are necessary. Six core courses are offered at the Centre: Construction, Sport & Recreation, Culinary Arts/Catering, Computer/Business Skills, Multi Skills and Hospitality & Tourism.
Learners also participate in a variety of other classes, sport and cultural pursuits are actively promoted. All courses are QQI and City & Guilds certified. The Centre has a 12:1 ratio learners to instructors. Learners are granted a training allowance. The Centre operates with guidance from The Board of Management with representatives from Cetb and the Mayfield community.
Mayfield CTC provides a learner-centered approach to early school leavers in a stimulating and supportive environment. Highly skilled staff help learners develop their full potential; gain internationally recognised qualifications and progress toward further education and employment.
