About this location
In 1984 a group of concerned Carlow people formed a committee and approached Carlow Parish for use of the old schools which were in disrepair. They applied to ANCO and Youth Employment Agency for funding. The workshop opened on the 7th January 1985 in the parish hall with ten boys.
The Carlow workshop was officially opened on 9th April 1986 with 30 trainees. In1988 ANCO became FÁS, and the workshop had become an important resource in the community. Trainees began taking part in work experience programmes and often became employed as a result of this.
Over the following years the workshop developed. Trainees were taken on outings, both cultural and social. The core subjects changed over the years to meet the needs of the trainees. In 2003 we moved to a modern purpose built premises and are now a 72 place centre offering QQI and VTCT qualifications as part of KCETB.
