Clare Youth Service

About this location

Clare Youth Service was established as Clare Regional Youth Council in 1969, with the CTC; then known as CTW (Community Training Workshop) opening in 1974. The CTW offered programmes
designed to enhance the skills of participants and reintegrate them to education.

Programmes included skills workshops such as cookery, woodwork, upholstery, metalwork, sewing & lessons in English, Irish and maths.

Some workshops produced items and offered services for the public. Participants travelled to countries such as America, Denmark and countries in Europe on exchange programmes.

Currently the CTC offers full-time QQI & LCA certified programmes for ‘at risk’ young people and supports their progress to further education and employment.

The centre works as part of the wider CYS service offering drugs education and prevention programmes; providing safe spaces, music projects & community activity projects where young people meet, have fun and learn to cope with the demands of modern day life.
